A Detour on the Road, a Turning Point in Life
During my engineering days, I first came across Srila Prabhupada’s books in my college library. At that time, however, I was a student of physics and was mainly focused on science and my career. I saw the books as something related to mythology and spirituality and did not pay much attention to them. After completing college, I went through a difficult phase in my life. I had always dreamed of becoming a scientist, and when that path did not work out, I felt quite lost and disappointed. One day, while I was at Thane railway station, I came across a pamphlet being distributed by one of the FOLK devotees. That small interaction eventually became the beginning of my journey towards Srila Prabhupada’s teachings. As I became involved in book distribution, I began experiencing many incidents that felt deeply meaningful to me. One such incident happened while we were travelling by car towards Vashi for book distribution. We initially planned to take the highway, but because of road construction, the route was diverted. I suggested taking another route, which eventually led to us being stopped and fined by an RTO officer. Initially, it seemed like an unfortunate inconvenience. But something unexpected happened. While speaking with the officer, we discovered that he was actually looking for a complete set of Bhagavad gita books. Because of his duty, he had not been able to visit the temple, but somehow the books came to him through this unexpected chain of events. For me, this was a beautiful reminder that Krishna can arrange circumstances in ways that we cannot foresee, and that Srila Prabhupada’s books can reach people in the most unexpected situations. What has touched me even more is that my original aspiration was always connected with science. I wanted to understand the universe, its origins and the fundamental principles behind it. Through Srila Prabhupada’s books and the Bhāgavatam, I gradually discovered discussions about the universe, its creation and expansion, time, matter, and even concepts that stimulated my scientific curiosity. I don't see spirituality and my scientific curiosity as necessarily being opposites anymore. Rather, Srila Prabhupada’s books gave me a completely different perspective from which to look at the biggest questions of life and the universe. What began as a book I ignored in my college library eventually became a journey that changed the direction of my life. For me, that itself is one of the most remarkable experiences of coming in touch with Srila Prabhupadas books.
